Fabien Corbière

Fabien graduated from the National Veterinary School of Maisons-Alfort (France) in 1999. He then spent 3 years as a Consultation Officer in the Ruminants Hospital of the National Veterinary School of Toulouse (ENVT) where he defended his veterinary thesis in 2002. He holds a master (2014) and a PhD in Epidemiology and Biostatistics (2007) from the INSERM U1212 unit at University Bordeaux 2 - ISPED (France). During this PhD, he developed statistical models in the area of survival analysis allowing for an unknown non-susceptible fraction and applied them to assess genetic and environmental risk factors associated with scrapie in sheep. Fabien joined ENVT in 2008 as Associate Professor in Ruminant Health Management and awarded full professor sheep in 2021. He also became the leader of the Joint Technical Unit (JTU) “Ruminants health management” team, in 2020.

Formerly involved in research programs dedicated the pathophysiology of prion diseases in ruminants, Fabien henceforth focused his research interests on epidemiological aspects of animal disease diagnosis, surveillance, control and risk assessment within the Epidec team. He develops and applies statistical models for the estimation of diagnostic test performances in the absence of a perfect gold standard and evaluates the performances of surveillance and screening strategies for various infectious diseases in ruminants. Main research topics are paratuberculosis and Border Disease Virus. Fabien in also the leader of the Ruminant health management Joint Technical Unit (JTU) (https://envt.fr/unite_recherche/umt_psr/) , which is dedicated to applied research programs and education in cattle, sheep and goat industries. Within this JTU, he is mainly involved in research programs related to lamb mortality and abortion and precision livestock farming.

Main teaching duties are related to ruminant diseases, including zootechnical, medical, surgical and post-mortem aspects at the individual and population levels. Individual health teaching is based on lectures and practical training at the Ruminant Hospital of ENVT, while population medicine is taught on farm around real cases of herd/flock health issues (problem solving). Fabien supervises several veterinary thesis each year with topics related to cattle, sheep or goat diseases.  He also teaches statistics for epidemiological analysis at Master level, notably in a program co-organised by ENVT (GIMAT).
